Have We Buried the Gospel?
Can You Be a Disciple and Not Multiply Disciples?. Introduction
Key Scripture: Matthew 25:14. 30
Jesus told a story about a master who entrusted his servants with something valuable.
Two servants put what they received to work. What they received multiplied.
But one servant did something different:
“But he who received the one talent went away and dug in the earth and hid his lord’s money.”. Matthew 25:18 WEB
He didn’t lose it. He didn’t reject it. He didn’t waste it through reckless living. He simply buried it. And produced nothing.
When the master returned, he did not praise the servant for keeping the talent safe. He said:
“You wicked and slothful servant.”. Matthew 25:26 WEB
That should disturb us.
Because it is possible to receive the gospel. Believe the gospel. Study the gospel. Defend the gospel. Attend church because of the gospel. And still bury the gospel.
Many Christians have followed Jesus for years but have never helped another person follow Him. We have accumulated sermons, Bible studies, conferences, books, podcasts, and theological knowledge. But where are our disciples? Where is the multiplication?
Jesus did not say: “Go and collect more information.” He said:
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…”. Matthew 28:19 WEB
When Jesus called His first disciples, He connected following with fishing:
“Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men.”. Matthew 4:19 WEB
Following Jesus was never meant to end with us.
The gospel is a sacred trust. Someone carried it to us. Someone prayed for us. Someone taught us. Someone helped us understand what it means to follow Jesus. Now that gospel has been placed in our hands. What are we doing with it?

These articles are not intended to condemn sincere believers who are still learning. They are intended to awaken those of us who have confused Christian activity with obedience to the Great Commission.
We will examine the difference between:
- Knowing and obeying.
- Attending and going.
- Learning and reproducing.
- Being a Christian consumer and becoming a multiplying disciple.
The goal is not guilt without hope. The goal is repentance that leads to action.
If you have never made even one disciple, your story does not have to end there. You can begin now.
- Pray for one person.
- Share one Bible story.
- Invite one friend to discover Jesus with you.
- Teach someone to obey what Jesus commanded.
- Then help that person do the same with someone else.
The gospel was never meant to be buried. It was meant to multiply.
