08. Obedience Matters More Than Information

Matthew 7:24-27
You can study the words of Jesus, and still build your life on sand.
Jesus described two people who heard His teaching.
Both listened to the same truth.
Both knew what Jesus had said.
Both built a house.
The difference was not what they heard.
The difference was what they obeyed.
One put Jesus’ words into practice. When the rain fell, the floods came, and the winds beat against the house, it remained standing.
The other heard, but did not obey.
His house fell.
And Jesus said:
“Great was its fall.”
We often measure spiritual maturity by how much someone knows.
How many Bible studies have they attended?
How many sermons have they heard?
How many verses can they quote?
How many discipleship courses have they completed?
But Jesus measures maturity differently.
Are we doing what He said?
Information can fill a notebook without transforming a life.
A person can learn about prayer without praying.
Study forgiveness without forgiving.
Discuss generosity without giving.
Memorize the Great Commission without making a single disciple.
Learn how to share the gospel without ever sharing it.
Knowledge becomes dangerous when it convinces us that hearing is the same as following.
In disciple-making, every truth should lead to a response:
What will you obey?
Who will you tell?
Jesus did not command us merely to teach people everything He commanded.
He told us to teach them to obey everything He commanded.
The goal is not disciples who simply know more.
The goal is disciples who immediately practice what Jesus teaches, and help others do the same.
A movement does not begin when people accumulate enough information.
It begins when ordinary believers hear Jesus, obey Jesus, and teach others to obey Jesus.
Challenge: What has Jesus already taught you that you still need to obey?
Do not ask God for another lesson while ignoring the last one.
Put His words into practice today.
