11. Do Not Keep What You Have Received

2 Timothy 2:2
The gospel was never meant to stop with you.
Paul told Timothy:
“The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
Do you see the generations?
Paul → Timothy → faithful people → others
Paul was not merely asking Timothy to teach people.
He was instructing Timothy to train people who could train still more people.
That is biblical disciple-making.
We Have Turned Discipleship Into Personal Growth
Too often, discipleship is measured by how much a person knows.
How many Bible studies have they completed?
How many sermons have they heard?
How many conferences have they attended?
But Paul looked beyond what Timothy had learned.
He wanted to know:
Who will receive it from you?
Will they be able to give it to someone else?
Biblical discipleship does not end when someone understands the truth.
It continues until that person can obey it, share it, and train another person to do the same.
What You Received Was Entrusted to You
Someone taught you the gospel.
Someone explained the Scriptures to you.
Someone prayed for you, encouraged you, corrected you, or showed you how to follow Jesus.
You did not receive these things merely for your own benefit.
You received them as a sacred trust.
The question is not only:
“What have I learned?”
The greater question is:
“Who am I preparing to carry this forward?”
If everything God has taught you remains with you, multiplication stops with you.
Do Not Aim Only for Another Convert
Jesus commanded us to make disciples.
That means helping people follow Him, obey His commands, and teach others to do the same.
We must not be satisfied when one person believes.
Can this person share the gospel?
Can this person tell their testimony?
Can this person study Scripture with others?
Can this person disciple someone else?
Can this person train another disciple-maker?
The goal is not dependence on us.
The goal is generations of disciples who depend upon Jesus and reproduce what they have received.
Multiplication Begins With One Faithful Person
You do not need a large platform.
You do not need hundreds of followers.
You need one faithful person willing to obey Jesus and pass His truth to someone else.
Teach them something they can obey.
Give them something they can reproduce.
Then encourage them to share it immediately.
Do not simply ask, “Did you understand?”
Ask, “Who will you share this with?”
The Gospel Must Not Stop With Us
The world will not be reached merely by adding more people to our churches.
It will be reached as ordinary believers make disciples who make disciples, generation after generation.
What Paul entrusted to Timothy reached far beyond Timothy.
What has been entrusted to you should reach far beyond you.
Do not keep what you have received.
Train someone to obey Jesus.
Prepare that person to train someone else.
Whom are you preparing to pass the gospel on to, and who will they teach?
Do not let the gospel stop with you.
