You Have More Than You Think
Article 02

You may be asking God for more while overlooking what He has already placed in your hands.

More training. More money. More confidence. More time.

We tell ourselves, “When I have enough, then I’ll do something.”

But consider the feeding of the five thousand in John 6:1-13.

A huge crowd needed food. Jesus asked Philip where they could buy bread to feed everyone.

Philip calculated the cost. The need was far beyond their resources.

Andrew noticed a boy with five barley loaves and two fish. But he quickly added the question many of us would have asked:

What is so little among so many?

Perhaps you have asked that about your own life.

What difference could my small gift make?

What could I accomplish with a phone?

Who would listen to someone like me?

How could one conversation help reach a nation?

The disciples saw a lunch that could never feed the crowd. Jesus took that lunch, gave thanks, and distributed it. Everyone ate, and the disciples gathered twelve baskets of leftovers.

The size of the need did not limit what Jesus could do with what was available.

What have you been overlooking?

You may have a kitchen table where a few people could explore stories about Jesus.

You may have a phone that connects you with someone who needs encouragement.

You may have years of experience that could help a younger leader persevere.

You may have an hour each week to pray, listen, and coach.

You may have enough to help a disciple-maker buy data, make a journey, or gather a few people for training.

You may know one person who would welcome an invitation.

That is something you can put into Jesus’ hands today.

I spent fourteen years serving in Ghana. Today, I cannot travel as I once did, but I can still serve. Through online training and coaching, I can encourage people who are reaching communities I may never visit.

My circumstances have changed. There is still work I can do.

And there is work you can do too.

You do not need to arrive with every answer. You can learn to share your story, explain the gospel, gather a few people around Scripture, and help someone else do the same.

A few people around a table can become a spiritual family. Someone in that family can help another household discover Jesus.

We cannot predict everything that will follow. We can take responsibility for the next step.

What is already in your hands that you could offer to Jesus?

This week, write down three things you have available: a relationship, an ability, some time, a resource, or a place to gather.

Then choose one and use it.

Call the person.

Open your home.

Begin the lesson.

Encourage the leader.

Give what God puts on your heart.

You have more than you think. Take one step with what you have.
