09. Do Not Wait for a Church Program

Acts 8:4
The Great Commission was never meant to sit on a church calendar.
It was meant to become the everyday lifestyle of every follower of Jesus.
When persecution scattered the believers in Jerusalem, they did not wait for the apostles to organize an outreach campaign.
They simply carried Jesus wherever they went.
Notice who spread the gospel.
It was not only the apostles.
It was ordinary believers.
They shared the good news in homes, marketplaces, villages, workplaces, and along the roads they traveled.
They did not need:
A church-sponsored event
A professional speaker
A ministry title
A special budget
A pastor’s permission
A perfectly organized program
They already had what they needed:
The gospel. The Holy Spirit. Their testimony. And people around them who needed Jesus.
Programs Can Help, but They Cannot Obey for Us
Church programs can train us, encourage us, and bring believers together for a common purpose.
But programs become dangerous when they unintentionally teach us that ministry only happens when the church organizes it.
We begin waiting for the next outreach event.
We wait for the pastor to announce a ministry opportunity.
We wait for someone else to create the plan, recruit the volunteers, and tell us where to go.
Meanwhile, people we see every day remain unreached.
Your neighbor does not need to wait for your church’s next evangelism program.
Your coworker does not need to wait for a special outreach Sunday.
Your family member does not need to wait for a trained professional.
They may simply need you to notice them, pray for them, listen to their story, and share what Jesus has done in your life.
The Church Is Not a Building or a Program
The church is God’s people, filled with His Spirit and sent into the world.
Wherever believers go, the church goes.
When you enter your workplace, a missionary has entered that workplace.
When you sit with a neighbor, a representative of Jesus is sitting with that neighbor.
When you open your home, your table can become a place where disciples are made.
The question is not:
“When will my church organize something?”
The question is:
“Who has Jesus already placed in front of me?”
Movements do not begin when everyone waits for a program.
Movements begin when ordinary believers accept responsibility for the people around them.
One Simple Practice, Starting Today
Write down the names of three people you regularly encounter who may be far from God.
Begin praying for them.
Look for an opportunity to serve them, share your testimony, tell a Bible story, or invite them to discover Jesus with you.
Do not wait for an event.
Do not wait for a title.
Do not wait for permission to obey what Jesus has already commanded.
Have church programs helped us obey, or unintentionally taught us to wait?
