10. You Become Ready by Obeying
From Church Attenders to Kingdom Laborers · Part 10
Luke 9:1-6
Many believers are waiting to feel ready.
Ready to share their testimony.
Ready to pray for someone.
Ready to start a Discovery Bible Study.
Ready to make a disciple.
Ready to obey the Great Commission.
But what if readiness does not come before obedience?
What if readiness comes through obedience?
When Jesus sent out the twelve disciples, they were still learning. They did not understand everything. They had not completed a theological education. They would still make mistakes, ask confused questions, and struggle with their faith.
Yet Jesus gave them authority and sent them out.
Their training was not confined to listening and watching.
Their training included going and doing.
They entered villages.
They proclaimed the Kingdom.
They ministered to people.
They depended upon God.
They discovered that Jesus’ authority was sufficient, even when their experience was limited.
This is how Jesus trained disciples.
He taught them.
He showed them.
Then He sent them out to obey.
Afterward, they returned and learned from what had happened.
We often reverse that process.
We believe people must understand everything before they can do anything. We keep believers sitting, studying, and listening, sometimes for years, while telling them they are not yet prepared to participate in the mission.
But knowledge alone does not produce readiness.
Obedience does.
You learn to pray by praying.
You learn to share the gospel by sharing it.
You learn to make disciples by beginning to disciple someone.
You learn to lead a Discovery Bible Study by gathering people and opening the Bible together.
You learn to depend upon the Holy Spirit by stepping into situations where you cannot succeed without Him.
This does not mean preparation is unnecessary. Jesus prepared His disciples before sending them.
But preparation was never intended to replace participation.
You do not need to know everything before you share what Jesus has already done in your life.
You do not need every answer before inviting someone to discover Jesus with you.
You do not need to feel confident before taking your first obedient step.
Your confidence will grow as you experience God working through your obedience.
Some believers have spent years preparing for a mission they have never begun.
Another class will not necessarily make you ready.
Another conference will not necessarily make you ready.
Another book will not necessarily make you ready.
At some point, you must go.
Who could you pray for today?
Who could hear your testimony?
Who could you invite to read Scripture with you?
What command of Jesus could you obey before this day ends?
Stop waiting to feel completely prepared.
Take the next step Jesus has already shown you.
You do not become ready and then obey.
You become ready by obeying.
