برادران بلافاصله در همان شب، پولس و سیلاس را به بِرِیه روانه کردند. ایشان چون به آنجا رسیدند، به کنیسه یهودیان رفتند. یهودیانِ بِرِیه از یهودیان تسالونیکی شریف‌تر بودند، زیرا کلام را با کمال اشتیاق پذیرفتند و همه‌روزه کتب مقدسه را تفتیش می‌کردند تا ببینند آیا آنچه پولس می‌گوید همین‌طور است یا نه. در نتیجه، بسیاری از ایشان ایمان آوردند، و از زنان و مردان یونانیِ برجسته نیز شمار کثیری ایمان آوردند.

از این رو، بسیاری از آن‌ها و همچنین از زنان برجسته یونانی و مردان نه چندان کم، ایمان آوردند.

۸- و عمالق آمد و با اسرائیل در رفیدیم جنگ کرد. ۹- آنگاه موسی به یوشع گفت: «برای ما مردان را انتخاب کرده، بیرون شو و با عمالق جنگ کن؛ و فردا من بر قله تل، با عصای خدا در دستم خواهم ایستاد.» ۱۰- پس یوشع چنان‌که موسی به وی گفته بود عمل کرده، با عمالق جنگ نمود؛ و موسی و هارون و حور به قله تل برآمدند. ۱۱- و واقع شد که چون موسی دست خود را بلند می‌کرد، اسرائیل غالب می‌شد؛ و هرگاه دست خود را فرود می‌آورد، عمالق غالب می‌شد. ۱۲- اما دستهای موسی سنگین شد؛ پس سنگی گرفته، زیر او گذاشتند و او بر آن نشست، و هارون و حور دستهای او را، یکی از این طرف و دیگری از آن طرف، گرفتند؛ و دستهای او تا غروب آفتاب ثابت ماند. ۱۳- و یوشع، عمالق و قوم او را با حد شمشیر ذلیل ساخت.

آنگاه عمالق آمد و در رفیعیدیم با اسرائیل جنگید.
موسی به یوشع گفت: “برای ما مردانی برگزین و بیرون رفته، با عمالقه بجنگ. فردا من بر فراز تپه با عصای خدا در دستم خواهد ایستاد.”
پس یوشع چنان‌که موسی به او گفته بود عمل کرد و با عمالقه جنگید، و موسی، هارون و حور به بالای تپه رفتند.
هنگامی که موسی دست خود را بالا نگاه می‌داشت، اسرائیل پیروز می‌شد؛ و هرگاه دست خود را پایین می‌آورد، عمالیق پیروز می‌شد.
اما دستان موسی سنگین شد؛ پس سنگی آوردند و زیر او گذاشتند و او بر آن نشست. هارون و حور دستان او را نگه داشتند، یکی از این سو و دیگری از آن سو. دست‌های او تا غروب آفتاب ثابت ماند.
یوشع عمالک و قومش را با تیغ شمشیر شکست داد.

او برخاست و رفت؛ و اینک مردی از اتیوپی، یک خصی صاحب مقام عالی در دربار کنداکه، ملکهٔ اتیوپی‌ها، که بر تمام گنجینه‌های او فرمانروایی داشت، برای عبادت به اورشلیم آمده بود.
او در حال بازگشت بود و بر ارابه خود نشسته و کتاب اشعیاء نبی را می‌خواند.
روح به فیلیپ گفت: “پیش برو و به این ارابه بپیوند.”
فیلیپ به سوی او دوید و شنید که او کتاب اشعیای نبی را می‌خواند، و گفت: “آیا می‌فهمی چه می‌خوانی؟”
او گفت: “چگونه می‌توانم، مگر اینکه کسی آن را برایم توضیح دهد؟” او از فیلیپ التماس کرد که بالا بیاید و کنارش بنشیند.

فیلیپ دهان خود را گشود و از همین کتاب، عیسی را به او بشارت داد.
در حالی که در راه می‌رفتند، به آب رسیدند و خواجه‌سرا گفت: “اینک آب است، چه مانعی دارد که من تعمید یابم؟”

او فرمان داد که ارابه بایستد، و هر دو، یعنی فیلیپس و خواجه‌سرا، به درون آب رفتند و او را تعمید داد.
هنگامی که از آب برآمدند، روح خداوند فیلیپ را ربود و خواجه‌سرا دیگر او را ندید، زیرا با شادی به راه خود ادامه داد.

او در میان مقبرها زندگی می‌کرد. هیچ‌کس دیگر نمی‌توانست او را ببندد، حتی با زنجیر،,
زیرا بارها با غل و زنجیر بسته شده بود، اما زنجیرها را از هم گسسته و غل‌ها را خرد کرده بود، و هیچ‌کس را یارای مهار کردن او نبود.
او همیشه، شب و روز، در گورستان‌ها and در کوهستان‌ها، فریاد می‌زد و خود را با سنگ‌ها می‌برید.

کسانی که آن را دیده بودند، ماجرای شخص دیوزده و خوک‌ها را برای آنان شرح دادند.
آنها شروع کردند به التماس کردن از او که از منطقهشان برود.
هنگامی که او وارد قایق می‌شد، کسی که در تسخیر دیوها بود از او التماس کرد که بگذارد همراهش باشد.

They have no root in themselves, but are short-lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

Others are those who are sown among the thorns. These are those who have heard the word,

and the cares of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Those which were sown on the good ground are those who hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, some thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times.”

He needed to pass through Samaria.
So he came to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son, Joseph.
Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being tired from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her,
“Give me a drink.”
For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
The Samaritan woman therefore said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
Jesus answered her,
“If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”
The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. So where do you get that living water?
Are you greater than our father, Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, as did his children, and his livestock?”
Jesus answered her,
“Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,

but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I don’t get thirsty, neither come all the way here to draw.”
Jesus said to her,
“Go, call your husband, and come here.”

The woman answered, “I have no husband.”
Jesus said to her,
“You said well, ‘I have no husband,’

for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly.”
The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.
Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.”
Jesus said to her,
“Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, will you worship the Father.

You worship that which you don’t know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.

But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshipers.

God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah comes, he who is called Christ. When he has come, he will declare to us all things.”
Jesus said to her,
“I am he, the one who speaks to you.”
At this, his disciples came. They marveled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no one said, “What are you looking for?” or, “Why do you speak with her?”
So the woman left her water pot, and went away into the city, and said to the people,
“Come, see a man who told me everything that I did. Can this be the Christ?”
They went out of the city, and were coming to him.
In the meanwhile, the disciples urged him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”
But he said to them,
“I have food to eat that you don’t know about.”
The disciples therefore said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?”
Jesus said to them,
“My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.

Don’t you say, ‘There are yet four months until the harvest?’ Behold, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and look at the fields, that they are white for harvest already.

He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit to eternal life; that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

For in this the saying is true, ‘One sows, and another reaps.’

I sent you to reap that for which you haven’t labored. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”
From that city many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of the woman, who testified, “He told me everything that I did.”
So when the Samaritans came to him, they begged him to stay with them. He stayed there two days.
Many more believed because of his word.
They said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of your speaking; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”

Joshua 6:1-16

Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the children of Israel. No one went out, and no one came in.

Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day, you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the city wall shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up, every man straight in front of him.”
Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh’s ark.”
They said to the people, “Advance! March around the city, and let the armed men pass on before Yahweh’s ark.”
It was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh advanced and blew the trumpets, and the ark of Yahweh’s covenant followed them.
The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the ark went after them. The trumpets sounded as they went.
Joshua commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout.”
So he caused Yahweh’s ark to go around the city, going about it once. Then they came into the camp, and stayed in the camp.
Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up Yahweh’s ark.
The seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns in front of Yahweh’s ark went on continually, and blew the trumpets. The armed men went in front of them. The rear guard came after Yahweh’s ark. The trumpets sounded as they went.
The second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. They did this six days.
On the seventh day, they rose early at the dawning of the day, and marched around the city in the same way seven times. Only on this day they marched around the city seven times.
At the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city!

If a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.

Remain in that same house, eating and drinking the things they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Don’t go from house to house.

Into whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat the things that are set before you.

Heal the sick who are therein, and tell them, ‘God’s Kingdom has come near to you.’

He arose, and immediately took up the mat, and went out in front of them all; so that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

Yahweh came, and stood, and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel said, “Speak; for your servant hears.”

Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men which fear God: men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
Let them judge the people at all times. It shall be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge themselves. So shall it be easier for you, and they shall share the load with you.
If you will do this thing, and God commands you so, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their place in peace.”
So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said.
Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
They judged the people at all times. They brought the hard causes to Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
Moses let his father-in-law depart, and he went his way into his own land.

and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple, for the wall of the city, and for the house that I will occupy.”
The king granted my requests, because of the good hand of my God on me.
