07. Stop Waiting for People to Ask About Your Church

Tool: Prayer walking
Luke 10:1-3; Matthew 9:36-38
When was the last time someone knocked on your church door and asked, "Would you please come tell my neighborhood about Jesus?"
We cannot build our mission around waiting for that to happen.
Jesus saw the crowds and had compassion on them. He told His disciples that the harvest was plentiful and instructed them to pray for laborers. Then He sent His followers out.
See the people. Pray. Go.
Prayer walking helps us practice all three. It takes us beyond talking about our community from inside a building. We walk its streets, notice its people, and ask God to shape our hearts toward them.
You do not need a microphone, a campaign, or a prepared speech. Invite another believer to walk with you. As you go, pray quietly for the homes, schools, workers, and families around you. Ask God where people are carrying burdens and where He is already opening doors.
If you meet someone, be present. Learn their name. Listen. If the moment is right, ask, "Is there anything we could pray about for you?" Respect their answer.
Prayer walking is more than getting steps in while saying prayers. It is training ourselves to see a neighborhood as Jesus saw the crowds: people worthy of compassion, attention, and love.
It can also expose an uncomfortable question:
Have we been waiting for people to find our church while Jesus is calling us to go to them?
You may walk an entire neighborhood without a single conversation. That walk still matters. You have prayed. You have paid attention. And when you return, the houses may no longer look like anonymous doors. They may remind you of people you have begun to care about.
Challenge: When was the last time you walked through your community with open eyes, an open heart, and an expectation that God was already working?
Field assignment: This week, prayer walk one neighborhood with another believer. Before you leave, write down any names, needs, or next steps God brought to your attention. Then pray for that neighborhood again.
