05. Your Table Can Become a Place of Discipleship
From Church Attenders to Kingdom Laborers · Part 05
Luke 5:27-32; Acts 2:46-47
You do not need a church building to make disciples.
You may already have everything you need:
A table. A meal. An open door. And a willingness to invite people into your life.
After Levi decided to follow Jesus, he did something remarkably simple:
He prepared a meal.
“Levi made a great feast for him in his house. There was a great crowd of tax collectors and others who were reclining with them.”
Luke 5:29 WEB
Levi did not begin by preaching to strangers.
He invited the people he already knew to meet the Jesus he had just begun following.
His home became the meeting place. His table became the bridge. His relationships became the mission field.
Jesus Sat With People Others Avoided
The religious leaders complained because Jesus was eating with tax collectors and sinners.
But Jesus answered:
“Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do.”

Jesus did not wait for broken people to become respectable before welcoming them.
He entered their world. He sat at their tables. He listened to their stories. He shared life with them.
The meal was not a distraction from His mission.
The meal was part of His mission.
The Early Church Multiplied From House to House
The believers in Acts did not gather only in large public meetings.
They also met in homes.
“Day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart.”
Acts 2:46 WEB
Around ordinary tables, people prayed together, learned together, shared what they had, cared for one another, and grew in obedience to Jesus.
Their homes became places where spiritual families were formed.
Discipleship was woven into everyday life.
Your Home Does Not Have to Be Impressive
You may think your house is too small.
Your furniture may not match. Your cooking may be simple. Your schedule may feel crowded. Your family life may not appear perfect.
None of that disqualifies your table.
People far from God are not necessarily looking for an impressive home.
Many are looking for a safe place where they can be known, heard, accepted, and loved.
Hospitality is not entertaining people.
Biblical hospitality is making room for people.
It is saying:
“You are welcome here.” “Your story matters.” “Let us discover Jesus together.”
Begin With the People You Already Know
Who could you invite?
A neighbor who lives alone. A coworker going through a difficult season. A family that recently moved into the area. A friend who has questions about God. Someone who may never enter a church building but would gladly share a meal with you.
Invite them to eat.
Listen to their story.
Ask how you can pray for them.
Share a story from the Bible and ask a few simple questions:
What does this story teach us about God?
What does it teach us about people?
What will we do in response?
Who else needs to hear this story?
You do not need to have every answer.
You simply need to open your door, open the Scriptures, and allow Jesus to lead the conversation.
Your Table Could Become a Beginning
Levi’s table became a place where his friends encountered Jesus.
The tables of the early believers became places where disciples grew and spiritual families multiplied.
What might happen around yours?
A meal could become a friendship.
A friendship could become a spiritual conversation.
A spiritual conversation could become a Discovery Bible Study.
A Discovery Bible Study could become a multiplying church.
Never underestimate what God can do through an ordinary believer, an open Bible, and an available table.
Challenge: What could God do if you opened your home, and your life, to people far from Him?
Choose one person or family.
Invite them to your table.
And trust Jesus with what happens next.
