Intro to Zúme

Nearly every tool listed across our 7 Sails traces back to one training. Here’s what Zúme is, where the name comes from, and how it fits together with what you see on this site.

Where the Name Comes From

“Zúme” comes from the Greek word for leaven — the yeast Jesus points to in Matthew 13:33, where He says the Kingdom of Heaven works like leaven a woman mixes into dough: small, hidden, ordinary, and unstoppable once it’s working. That’s the picture behind the training. It isn’t built around a stage, a program budget, or a professional clergy. It’s built around ordinary believers, in ordinary homes, quietly multiplying disciples the way leaven works through dough — until the whole batch rises.

What Zúme Training Is

Zúme is a free, global discipleship-making training, built around ten sessions — a welcome session, nine basic sessions, and one advanced session for those coaching others. Each session follows the same simple rhythm: watch a short video, discuss a passage of Scripture together, then go practice what you just learned before the group meets again. It’s designed to be led by anyone, in a small group of two or three, with no seminary degree required — just a willingness to obey what God’s Word says and pass it on.

How It Fits This Site

When you look at the tools spread across the 7 Sails on this site — practices like hearing and obeying God’s Word, spiritual breathing, prayer walking, finding a person of peace, sharing your story and God’s Story, starting a 3/3 discovery group, forming leadership cells, and staying faithful for the long haul — you’re looking at Zúme’s ten sessions, just organized around the 7 practices that raise the sail instead of session numbers. Working your way through the Sails is, in practice, working your way through Zúme.

  • Sail 1 — hearing God’s Word, spiritual breathing, and accountability (Zúme Sessions 1–2)
  • Sail 3God’s Story and sharing your testimony (Zúme Sessions 3–4)
  • Sail 5prayer walking, person of peace, and pace (Zúme Sessions 5, 9)
  • Sail 6 — 3/3 discovery groups and faithfulness (Zúme Sessions 6–8)
  • Sail 7 — coaching checklists, leadership networks, and peer mentoring (Zúme Session 10, Advanced)
